Space Coast Elections

The ASCE Space Coast Elections will be taking place Friday, September 19th through Friday, October 31, 2025! 

​

Through this 6 week period, ASCE Space Coast Branch members are welcome to submit nominations for all available positions.

​

Between Friday, October 31 and Monday, November 3rd, our Nominating Committee shall choose one (1) or more candidates for election to each office, except the office of President. In addition, candidates may be nominated by written petition containing twenty (20) signatures of Subscribing Members.

Nominating Committee

Our nominating committee is comprised of duly selected members appointed by the Branch Board of Directors. 

Available Positions and Responsibilities

Why Run for an Officer Position?
Serving as an elected officer in the ASCE Space Coast Branch is both an honor and an opportunity to make a lasting impact on our engineering community. While these positions carry responsibility, they are designed to fit seamlessly into your busy schedule.

  • Time Commitment: Most officer duties average just 1–2 hours per week.

  • Meetings: Only one mandatory Board of Directors meeting each month.

  • Flexibility: We’re a supportive team that values your time and will always work with you to accommodate your schedule and commitments.

Vice President
The Vice President is primarily responsible for coordinating and arranging the Branch General Meetings
as well as providing necessary support to the other officers. Along with arranging the meeting place and
time, the Vice President will ensure that any necessary equipment and other items are available and
ready at the meetings.


Responsibilities include:

  • Perform all duties of the President in their absence or at the President’s request

  • Succeed to the office of the President if there is a vacancy in that office

  • Coordinate and arrange all Branch General Meetings

  • Track Branch membership

  • Coordinate/maintain the Branch Website

Treasurer
The Treasurer is primarily responsible for tracking and handling the Branches finances. The Treasurer
must maintain a budget and track Branch spending regularly and provide feedback as needed for
increases or reductions in spending. In addition, the Treasurer facilitates most of the transactions of the
Branch.


Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate Branch financial activities

  • Track and coordinate Branch budgets with all committees and officers

  • Act as an Branch contact for those committees put under their supervision

  • Generate and present financial reports, including year-end financial report

  • Coordinate with President and other Officers for purchases

  • Maintain financial records (in hardcopy and/or electronic files) and accurate records of income,

  • spending, donations, and financial holdings

  • Keeper of petty cash, checkbook, and received checks

  • Perform banking needs with local bank, including check deposits, checkbook reordering, and

  • receipt and filing of bank statements

Secretary
The Secretary shall record, prepare, maintain, and distribute the minutes of Branch meetings. In
addition, the Secretary shall organize Branch correspondence as requested by the Officers.


Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing minutes for all meetings

  • Preparing and sending ballots for the nominating committee

  • Coordinate/maintain the Branch newsletter

 


Historian
The Historian shall document the activities of the Branch, primarily by photography and/or videography
of events and meetings. The Historian shall also be responsible for assisting with the development of
marketing materials using these assets.
Responsibilities include:

  • Photographing events/meetings

  • Recording of events/meetings as needed

  • Editing of photos and footage

  • Maintaining digital archive

  • Assisting with marketing efforts as needed

Events Chair

The Events Chair leads the branch hospitality/program committee and creates a friendly atmosphere at branch meetings and special events. They coordinate logistics, welcome attendees, and ensure events run smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and promote branch meetings and events – Advertise upcoming events through social media and the branch website, register speakers, and coordinate with communications officers to ensure events are publicizedascehouston.org.

  • Manage meeting logistics – Solicit volunteers, prepare guest lists, set up registration and name‑tag tables, provide pens and receipts, track head counts and compare with venue billing, log walk‑ins and no‑shows and report attendance to the Vice President.

  • Create a welcoming atmosphere – Greet guests, introduce newcomers to officers and members, issue name tags and make sure everyone feels welcome.

  • Host guests and speakers – Act as host during meetings, escort speakers, and arrange for thank‑you gifts or recognition.

  • Coordinate with Board on other functions – Provide logistical support (registration, name tags, greeters, signage) at special branch events such as awards dinners or technical seminars

Construction Institute Chair

The Construction Institute Chair leads the local CI chapter, connects branch members with the construction industry, and promotes professional development. The chair acts as liaison with the national CI and organizes events that advance construction technology and practice.

Responsibilities

  • Advance construction practice – Promote CI’s mission of advancing construction technology, equipment, and techniques and providing a forum for exchanging ideas among designers, contractors and ownersbsces.org.

  • Coordinate technical programs – Plan continuing‑education seminars, technical lectures, panel discussions, site visits and tours relevant to construction; schedule joint events with the Branch.

  • Send members to national conferences – Encourage CI members to attend CI Congress and other conferences to learn best practices and bring ideas back to the chapter.

  • Organize signature events – Lead local programs such as Bridging the Gap series and Women in Construction Week, providing training and networking opportunities.

  • Recruit and liaise – Maintain contact with construction industry professionals, recruit new CI members, and liaise with the Branch board and national CI.

Environmental and Water Resources Institute Chair

The EWRI Chair runs the branch’s environmental and water resources chapter. The chair develops technical programs, fosters volunteer leadership and ensures continuity by sharing duties among committee members.

Responsibilities

  • Plan diverse activities – Organize monthly or bi‑monthly presentations, technical seminars, field trips, working group meetings, community service, and networking events to serve environmental and water resources professionals.

  • Recruit volunteers and rotate leadership – Assign volunteers to chair individual activities and encourage members to lead events; rotate officers to maintain continuity and ensure new leaders are trained.

  • Coordinate with ASCE EWRI – Liaise with the national EWRI, share local activities, and incorporate national initiatives into local programming.

  • Identify speakers and topics – Seek out practitioners and researchers to present on environmental and water resources issues and integrate sustainability considerations where appropriate.

  • Manage budget and reporting – Develop an annual budget for EWRI activities and report on accomplishments and attendance to the Branch board.

Sustainability Chair

The Sustainability Chair champions sustainable engineering within the branch. Working with the ASCE Committee on Sustainability (COS) and technical groups, the chair advances sustainable practices, educates members and engages with the community.

Responsibilities

  • Identify speakers and provide professional development – Partner with branch technical groups to identify speakers who incorporate sustainability into projects and provide leadership and professional development opportunities for members.

  • Disseminate ASCE sustainability initiatives – Promote COS programs and position papers, such as Envision® certification, to branch members and the public.

  • Develop sustainability policies and alliances – Lead the committee in defining sustainability for the branch, drafting position papers, and forming alliances with academic, industry and government organizations.

  • Organize events and field trips – Coordinate a regional sustainability symposium, plan field trips highlighting sustainable infrastructure projects, and showcase case studies of award‑winning sustainable projects.

  • Establish awards and recognition – Manage a sustainability project award for the branch and encourage members to apply for ASCE’s national sustainability awards.

  • Provide legislative input – Monitor regional legislation related to sustainability and coordinate with the board to provide expert input when appropriate.

Transportation & Development Institute Chair

The T&DI Chair manages the local T&DI chapter, connecting transportation and land development professionals and aligning local activities with national T&DI objectives.

​

Responsibilities

  • Advance transportation and land development practice – Promote T&DI’s mission of advancing the state‑of‑the‑art and state‑of‑practice in transportation and development and provide opportunities for members to share expertise.

  • Plan technical programs – Organize technical lectures, seminars, workshops, tours and networking events, offering professional development hours (PDHs) where possible.

  • Coordinate joint events and conferences – Work with the Branch to hold joint events and send chapter members to national T&DI conferences and multi‑region leadership workshops.

  • Recruit members and sponsors – Grow T&DI membership, attract sponsors for events, and liaise with local agencies and industry.

  • Provide guidance on transportation policy – Collaborate with the branch’s advocacy committee to offer technical input on transportation policies or infrastructure initiatives.

​Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute Chair

The UESI Chair leads the branch’s utility engineering and surveying chapter. The chair promotes excellence in utility infrastructure engineering, pipeline design, and surveying, and connects members with national UESI initiatives.

​

Responsibilities

  • Promote professional excellence – Advance best practices in utility engineering and surveying, including planning, design, construction, operations, and asset management of utility infrastructure.

  • Offer technical activities and continuing education – Provide technical seminars, webinars, and continuing‑education programs; encourage members to attend national conferences and participate in standards development.

  • Facilitate networking and collaboration – Organize networking events and facilitate collaboration among utility engineers, surveyors, asset managers, and other professionals.

  • Coordinate with national UESI – Serve as the liaison to ASCE UESI, share local successes, and bring national guidance and standards to the local membership.

  • Promote pipeline and surveying standards – Engage the chapter in developing and adopting internationally recognized standards for utility and pipeline engineering and surveying.

​Younger Member Group President

The Younger Member Group (YMG) President is the executive leader of the branch’s younger member chapter. They preside over YMG meetings, coordinate committees, manage the budget, and ensure continuity of operations.

​

Responsibilities

  • Preside and lead – Serve as the executive officer of the YMG, preside at meetings, and appoint committees to carry out activities.

  • Budget and administration – Prepare the YMG operating budget, ensure expenditures stay within budget, and transmit a summary of activities and finances to the Section/Branch Secretary.

  • Coordinate committees and officers – Supervise YMG vice presidents, secretary, treasurer and committee chairs; assign responsibilities; and ensure that committees report accomplishments to the president.

  • Plan professional and social activities – Lead the development of technical programs, volunteer activities and social events tailored to younger members; encourage participation in leadership training and ASCE programs.

  • Promote membership and leadership development – Recruit younger members, mentor emerging leaders, and coordinate with ASCE’s Leader Training Committee to send YMG representatives to leadership conferences and training events.

  • Represent YMG – Serve as the YMG representative on the Branch board, communicate YMG activities to branch leadership, and advocate for younger member perspectives.

Serving as an officer on the ASCE Space Coast Branch Board of Directors is your chance to make a real impact on our engineering community while building leadership skills, expanding your network, and shaping the future of our profession. The time commitment is light, just 1–2 hours a week with one monthly board meeting, and we work together to support each other’s schedules. By stepping into a leadership role, you’ll not only strengthen our Branch but also gain invaluable professional experience and recognition within ASCE.
